I took a trip to Disney World in February recently and the weather was perfect — a major factor for me when deciding when to visit. Presidents’ Day Weekend aside, February is an excellent choice if you’re looking for comfortable temperatures, lower crowds, and some special events around the parks.

Whether you’re visiting Disney World this February or you’re thinking of planning a vacation for a future February, this article breaks down the major events that are happening throughout the month. What’s happening at Walt Disney World in February

EPCOT International Festival of the Arts

EPCOT’s first festival of the calendar year, the Festival of the Arts, continues through most of February. The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts is a celebration of all things visual and performing arts, with colorful food and beverage items available for purchase, along with photo ops inspired by famous paintings, scavenger hunts, and the DISNEY ON BROADWAY Concert Series.

The festival is available during regular park hours, with all entertainment, photo ops, etc. included with your admission. Limited-time food and beverage items are available for a separate purchase. The DISNEY ON BROADWAY Concert Series, starring performers from Disney Broadway musicals, typically has a few performances each evening. To guarantee seating at that evening’s free concert, you may want to look into booking a concert dining package, which includes a dining reservation at an EPCOT restaurant and a reserved seating area for one of the evening performances.

Disney After Hours

The month of February also sees the continuation of Disney After Hours. On select nights, Disney World hosts guests at one of its parks — either Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios — at a hard-ticketed event that offers lower wait times for attractions, unique character meet-and-greets, and unlimited snacks such as popcorn, ice cream novelties, and soda.

Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air at Walt Disney World in the month of February! If you’re visiting the parks around Valentine’s Day (February 14), you’ll spot several limited-time treats around the parks and resorts. These treats usually pop up starting in early February and last through Valentine’s Day. Expect lots of sweets and plenty of red and pink food and beverage items available for purchase!

Around Valentine’s Day, you’ll usually spot a few pieces of merchandise available for purchase as well. Think your limited-edition Mickey and Minnie plush, t-shirts, and pins. Valentine’s Day is certainly not a huge holiday (it’s not like you’ll see an uptick in crowds, unlike the other holiday that happens later in the month, Presidents’ Day), but it’s nice that Disney World celebrates it with these limited-time offerings.

Princess Half Marathon Weekend

There’s no rest for the weary in the first couple of months in the year. Coming in right off the heels of the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend (traditionally taking place in early January) is the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. In years past, the Princess Half Marathon Weekend will take place the weekend following Presidents’ Day. The Princess Half Marathon Weekend consists of a 5K, a 10K, and a Half Marathon.

During this time, you’ll want to be aware of road closures and increased crowds. The 5K and 10K mornings are typically quick enough that the runners will be cleared out by park opening, but the Half Marathon morning could see some added traffic if you’re trying to rope drop a park.

Walt Disney World in February weather

Disney World continues to be chillier than normal in the month of February. It’s usually the last month of reliably “cooler” weather, but those cool temps can last into early-mid March. In any event, if you’re visiting Disney World in the month of February, you still want to check the forecast for chillier temperatures, especially those low temps in the early morning and late evening.

February is, after all, still winter, so you want to be prepared in the event you’re at Disney World during a cold snap. This means bringing a jacket (not your heaviest jacket, but something to add a little bit of warmth), hats, and gloves if your hands are prone to getting cold. You might think I’m joking, but just wait until you’re standing around World Showcase Lagoon waiting for the fireworks to start. Trust me, it can get cold!

Tips for visiting Walt Disney World in February

Be aware of Presidents’ Day Weekend crowds

While February is generally a good time to visit with lower crowds, the one major exception is Presidents’ Day Weekend and the days that immediately follow it. Schools in the northeast generally have that entire week off, so many families will be visiting the parks during this time.

The weekend leading up to Presidents’ Day and the days immediately following could be extra busy in the parks. Another thing to note is that the Princess Half Marathon Weekend is the following weekend. This means that the entire week of Presidents’ Day is typically very busy with a double whammy of school breaks and the half marathon weekend.

Check out the Festival of the Arts before it ends

The major seasonal event taking place at Walt Disney World in February is the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. I highly suggest taking time out of your day at EPCOT to check the festival out. Order the specialty menu items at festival booths, admire the art work, and catch a performance of the DISNEY ON BROADWAY Concert Series. The festival usually wraps up around the third weekend of the month.
