1. It’s easy to get to
To reach the resort, you’ll fly into Cancun International Airport. There are lots of nonstop flights to Cancun from major U.S. cities like Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Charlotte, Orlando, and Baltimore, giving you an array of flight options and, ideally, access to better ticket prices.
The airport is about 45 minutes away from Sandos Caracol Nature Resort. You can make reservations for airport transport ahead of time (for an additional cost) with the resort’s transportation service partner, Seek & Go.
2. It’s budget-friendly
Sandos Caracol Nature Resort is an all-inclusive resort. Accommodations, food and beverages, and activities and amenities are all included in the total price. All-inclusive stays can offer great value for families. They make it easy for kids to try new foods (and get something else if they truly don’t like it), and hungry teens can eat to their hearts’ content.
The amenities at Sandos Caracol Nature Resort also give you a lot for your money. An on-site water park features 29 slides with options for all ages and is free to access for guests. There are also five pools, a beach area, a kids club, and wellness activities like yoga and sound healing.
All-inclusive rates start at $268 a night for a double occupancy room, and the resort often offers special deals and promotions. Current offers include up to 30% off and up to $500 in resort credit for bookings made by July 31, 2026, for travel through December 23, 2027, as well as a kids-stay-free deal.

3. You’ll be immersed in Mexican culture and history
One of my favorite elements of Sandos Caracol Nature Resort is how the entire property connects you with Mexico’s Mayan history. A free guided eco tour winds through the lush jungle setting to reach the resort’s very own Mayan ruins, offering a glimpse at what life was like in the area hundreds or even thousands of years ago.
The ruins were discovered during the resort’s construction in 1999 and are believed to have been pyramids, small dwellings, and trading posts from the Mayan Xcalacoco community. The eco tour is offered twice a day and is led by both English- and Spanish-speaking guides.
There are five cenotes throughout the property, natural pits or sinkholes that connect to vast, underground river systems and were considered sacred by the Maya people. Guests can swim or snorkel in the resort’s cenotes for a unique Yucatán Peninsula experience. There’s also a weekly evening event called the Red Queen Ceremony by the main cenote featuring a story based on Mayan legend.
Other regular events include a weekly Mayan fire ceremony and a Friday evening street festival with Mexican games, food, and live music. And, of course, you can find plenty of Mexican cuisine on the menu at the resort’s Las Máscaras restaurant and El Nido taco bar.
If you get inspired to explore the area beyond the resort, that’s easy to do thanks to the resort’s partnership with Seek & Go. There’s a dedicated reception desk and meeting point for Seek & Go tours on-site, and the company can take you on guided reef snorkeling trips or to Mayan archaeological sites like Chichén Itzá (for an additional fee).
4. You’ll also see the natural side of Playa del Carmen
A mangrove river runs through Sandos Caracol Nature Resort, where you’ll likely spot fish and turtles during your stay. I kept getting stopped in my tracks by adorable coatis during my visit. As I walked the resort, I’d spot the oh-so-cute members of the raccoon family with their snouts in the vegetation looking for food or showing off their tree climbing skills.
Raccoons, spider and howler monkeys, green and black iguanas, and all kinds of birds also call the resort home, so keep your eyes peeled for cool wildlife sightings. Bike and kayak tours are a fun way to wildlife watch. There’s also an on-site petting zoo home to rescued animals like donkeys, pigs, goats, and rabbits.

You can up that natural connection by staying in one of the Eco Family accommodations. They’re situated amid the jungle and near the resort’s cenotes and mangrove waterways, so you’re never far from your next wildlife encounter or eco experience. Interiors take inspiration from the natural environment outside (think forest-inspired finishes, nature-themed decor) and the rooms rely on sustainable energy sources like solar energy for power.
Eco Family Superior rooms feature a king-size bed and lofted twin bunk beds in one room. Eco Family Suites offer the same sleeping configuration but in two rooms, as well as an oversized bathroom with two showers, two toilets, and twin sinks. But their coolest feature? Private plunge pools set on the jungle-view balconies.
